The scientific interest presented by this place is a magnet for visitors from all over the world who observe this great biological laboratory of nature that hides centuries-old secrets.
The importance of these areas led to the designation of a large part of them as the Rhodope Mountains National Park. This extends from the north-eastern slopes of Mount Falakrou and continues north of the Nestos River to the Greek-Bulgarian border and the mountainous region of Xanthi.
